Juniper New SDN and Automation Track

Juniper updated their Certification Program with a new Track, SDN and Automation. A Specialist exam (JN0-410) is only available for now,  JNCIA is a pre-requirement, but the Professional level should be expected next year (2017). Renew your Expired Juniper Certification until March 2017

The JNCP is offering a recertification grace period to candidates whose certifications expired in 2016. Expired certifications may be renewed between January 1, 2017 and March 31, 2017 by taking the same or higher level exam or using the Continuing Education option. This means candidates with Specialist through Expert-level certifications that have expired do not have to start at the JNCIA-level.

To renew an expired certification, candidates must pass the appropriate exam or attend an appropriate course by March 31, 2017. See the Recent News section of the Certification Website for instructions on how to take advantage of this offer

Setup Cisco CSR 1000v

Setup a Cisco CSR 1000v is not much different from i’ve explained with IOS-XRv. This product runs IOS-XE image which is great for my CCIE SP studies. I have in my lab 10 of them using 3.12S, this version has a major change regarding Licensing.

Evaluation Licenses—Cisco IOS XE 3.12S and Earlier

Prior to the Cisco IOS XE 3.13S release, the Cisco CSR 1000V came bundled with a 60-day evaluation license included with the software image, providing:

  • Premium technology package features
  • 50 Mbps maximum throughput

The license is activated by entering the license boot level command and rebooting the router.

When the 60-day evaluation license expires, the maximum throughput reverts to 2.5 Mbps and to the Standard feature set upon reload.

Evaluation Licenses—Cisco IOS XE 3.13S and Later

Beginning with the Cisco IOS XE 3.13S release, the CSR 1000V boots by default with the following features:

  • AX technology package features
  • 100 Kbps maximum throughput

Evaluation License Options

Evaluation licenses valid for 60 days are available at the Cisco licensing portal.

The evaluation license options enable test driving additional technology packages and higher throughputs. (The throughputs available through evaluation licenses are the highest supported throughput levels for the package type.)

  • APP Technology package, 5 Gbps

Passed VCP5-DCV

After 2 months and an half studying VMware and went through official training, i’m really happy to say I’m officially VCP5-DCV for the next 2 years!


One of the big pre-requirements is to have official training which cost around ~3500 USD, but if your are alone on this journey you can check a VMware IT Academy (VITA) for an online or classroom training. The cost on a VITA will vary between ~200 and 700 USD.To pick one of this courses on VITA there are pre-requirements also like unemployed, career changers, etc.


I’ve build my home Lab with 3 physical Servers, you can build yours using VMware Workstation, performance it’s not required here :). After vSphere ICM course, i’ve read VCP5-DCV Official Certification Guide to clarify some gaps. I’ve watched also CBT Nuggets VMware 5.5 (my notes on this are unfinished).  VCP Community ad documentation Center for 5.5 is also a great resource.
